(2) Bike Packing Adventure

A few weeks ago I rode from my house in Salt Lake to the Great Salt Lake and made a film about it. If you haven’t checked it out yet, I promise you its worth your time.

Check it out here!

Part 2 will be released shortly!

(3) Plan to be Happy (this has not changed from the last newsletter)

How the heck can you plan to be happy? Surprisingly easy.

Choose a hike that is right for you. New to hiking? Lets not plan on hiking Mount Olympus after work on Tuesday. The BST (Bonneville Shoreline Trail) is relatively flat and easy to get to. How about some kayaking or a walk with the dogs?

Take your time and be mindful of your surroundings. There is no need to rush during your peaceful times outdoors. Sometimes just stopping in the middle of your hike/bike/walk just to see what is around you or take in the smells of the quaking aspens can turn that frown upside down.

Hike and camp with friends or family. You are not the only person who like the outdoors and sometimes an invite to/from a pal is just what you need!

Leave no trace. Nature does not want your M*****r Energy can! Do one better; clean up a piece of trash you find while hiking.

(4) Embrace the Fall Colors

This neighborhood near my place is notorious for wild octogenarians in their native habitat. While I’m not quite in their demographic, I am starting to really get it.

(5) Bike Packing

Ill admit this is my favorite kind of camping. Fully self-supported. Ear to the ground. A weird level of soreness and satisfaction only compared to one other thing I can think of..

Luckily I live in a place where I can bike pack in some very unique locations. The Wasatch Range is in my backyard and the Great Salt Lake is a stone throw away. Both unique styles of riding but the payoff is the same.

(6) Gear Review

Remember those ratty hiking shoes from the Spring newsletter?

They are d-o-n-e.

I got a bunch more miles from them this year, but I cannot take another slip and fall on the butt.

These treads are worn!!

As my friend Marie Kondo says¹

But when we really delve into the reasons for why we can’t let something go, there are only two: an attachment to the past or a fear for the future.

Thank you hiking shoes. You made my life better. Its time.

Have a look at your hiking, camping, and biking things. Can you do a repair and get more hours with them? Give a repair a try but if not, its time to throw them in the bin.
